Introducing Simon’s “Must Have Sentiments”

I have a new sentiment collection to share today, and I’m already loving how easy it is to add a little extra something to my cards! Simon Hurley’s Must Have Sentiments features six sentiments on one Press & Foil Plate, along with a coordinating die that cuts all six sentiments out with one pass through the die-cutting machine. Talk about a time-saver!

Before starting my card, I used the Must Have Sentiments with both the BetterPress Letterpress System as well as the Glimmer Hot Foil Machine (new edition available soon). Because the sentiments are on one plate with one cutting die, I had a pile of finished sentiments in a matter of minutes. I love having extra sentiments on hand in a variety of colors. Being able to use one product with two different systems (BetterPress & Hot Foil), makes it easy to create the exact look that I want.

For this card, I foiled the “Thinking of You” sentiment and paired it with the Hero Arts Beep Beep Dies and Beep Beep Leaf Peeper Dies for a fun fall scene. The scarecrow sits behind the wheel, cruising into a crisp fall day.

Let’s Start with Some Colors

I chose my own color palette of Bellini, Saffron, Terra Cotta, Raven, Seaside, Waterfall, Orchid, Mulberry, Peridot and Rain Forest ColorWheel Cardstock.

Cruising with Beep Beep Dies

I started with the Beep Beep dies to create the car, choosing warm Terra Cotta ColorWheel Cardstock that felt perfect for an autumn card.

I used Stampin’ Up cardstock (Smoky Slate) for the bumper, side mirrors and trim around the headlights. The headlights were cut from Saffron, and I added a punched heart on the hood. The tires were cut from Raven while the “Hello” license plate was cut from Waterfall and Mulberry.

A Scarecrow Riding in Style

Next, I made the scarecrow with the Beep Beep Leaf Peeper Dies, using Seaside and Waterfall ColorWheel Cardstock, and then placed him behind the wheel.

Sitting beside him is a large bouquet of purple sunflowers, also from the Beep Beep Leaf Peeper Dies. These were cut from Orchid and Mulberry, with the centers being cut from Saffron and Terra Cotta. The flower stems and leaves were cut from Peridot and Rain Forest. I love the unexpected pop of purple against the warm terra cotta of the car. It’s a little different from the traditional fall colors, but I think that’s what makes it so fun.

Adding Some Harvest Texture

With the car, scarecrow and flowers glued together, they were ready to be placed onto a background. I chose a panel of Bellini ColorWheel Cardstock and textured it with Harvest Marks, which is September’s Embossing Folder of the Month. I love how a little bit of texture changes the entire look of a card.

Must Have Sentiments-They’re Essential!

I had a hard time choosing which of the Must Have Sentiments I would use on today’s card. Each one would have worked, but I finally settled on “Thinking of You”. The foiled sentiment adds a bit of shine without taking away from the scene. Sometimes a simple sentiment is all you need when the rest of the card tells the story.

Keeping the Inside Simple

I decided to leave this card free of an inside sentiment, leaving it open for a personalized note when the time is right. A simple purple sunflower adorns the bottom corner.

In Summary

I’m especially happy with how Simon’s Must Have Sentiments will work for most of my everyday cards, and I can’t wait to use them over & over again!
