Do you ever feel like Christmas has completely worn you out before the big day even arrives? I think this little penguin knows exactly how that feels. He’s fallen asleep and all is calm, for now. Sometimes, we all have to rest in the midst of holiday chaos!
Finding Humor with Merry Mayhem
For this card, I used the penguin from the Snow Done die set, which is part of Spellbinders Merry Mayhem Collection. He’s fast asleep on his iceberg, with Christmas lights strewn all over him and scattered around his little resting spot. There’s even a spilled glass of wine off to the side.
Combining Products

I love the humor in this design. The tangled Christmas lights and Santa hat are from Christmas Cats Accessories die set, part of Yana’s Christmas Cats Collection. I love how they fit perfectly in this little scene just like they did for my previous post, Christmas Cat-astrophe.
A Background with Contrast
I wanted the sky and ocean to have some contrast, so I cut the ocean from Cosmic Sky ColorWheel Cardstock. I used Autumn Bark 3D embossing folder to texture this piece, making it look slushy like an arctic ocean.
The penguin’s iceberg was cut from Celestial and Cascade ColorWheel Cardstock, while the top was cut from Glitter Frosted White Cardstock. It is floating out in the ocean, with a beautiful sunrise spreading across the sky.

I used a piece of Lawn Fawn’s Fairy Godmother 12×12 paper to make the gorgeously colored sky and textured it with Sun Rays embossing folder. I use this particular Lawn Fawn paper so much that I bought 12 sheets of it to make sure I don’t run out any time soon!
The warm colors of the sunrise create a gorgeous contrast with the cool blues of the water and iceberg. It’s such a peaceful scene, even if our little friend’s evening ended early!
I had fun combining the playful Christmas scene with the calm but textured ocean background. I’m always thrilled when I can combine dies from different sets. I feel like I’ve scored a touchdown whenever I can intermix die sets!
All is Calm, For Now
The sentiment, “All is Calm, for now”, fits this little scene perfectly and is from the Joy-ish Sentiments stamp set. I cut the cloud using a die from Unstoppable and then stamped the sentiment onto it using blue ink.
Since the Joy-ish Sentiments stamp set doesn’t include coordinating dies, I looked for something that would fit into the scene and was big enough for the sentiment. Sometimes a label die or punch works great, but for this card, a die cut cloud seemed like the perfect addition.
Laughing at the Chaos

Sometimes holiday cards are all about glitter, pretty ornaments, and picture-perfect Christmas trees. And then there are cards like this one that remind us it’s perfectly fine to embrace the chaos and have a little laugh along the way.
After all, Christmas doesn’t have to be perfect to be memorable. Sometimes, all you need is a quiet iceberg, a beautiful sunrise, and permission to be snow done for the day! Enjoy the calm while it lasts!
Until next time,
~Krista
