Happy Birthday from One Fabulous Chick to Another

Who says getting older means slowing down? Not this chick! She’s got her high heels on, a glass of wine in hand, and clearly has no intention of letting another birthday get in her way. I think she’s proof that a little age just adds to the personality!

For today’s card, I’m featuring Spellbinders’ Small Die of the Month, Still Got It Chicken. Clubs are open today for new subscribers, so if you love her, then grab her while you can! And let me tell you, this little lady has plenty of attitude!

In fact, the entire All-Clubs Crate is packed full of hilarious, snarky and wonderful birthday products that will keep you crafting all year round.

Using the Dies & Assembling Chick

I started by die-cutting the chicken from Bees Wax ColorWheel Cardstock. I continued cutting pieces, using Sicily for the beak and feet, Cranberry for the shoes, wattle and wine, Acorn for the wings and Windy for the wine glass. Her head scarf is cut from a blue gingham found in Sunny Studio’s Gingham Jewel Tones 6×6 Paper Pack.

Once I had all of the pieces cut, I assembled this sassy chick and then set her aside to work on a background.

For the Love of Gingham

I wanted to carry that same gingham pattern throughout the card, so I used Spellbinders’ Color Block Rectangles to frame the design. I paired the blue gingham with Bees Wax cardstock, creating a cheerful combination that pulls everything together. I topped the coordinating Color Block Rectangles with an Alabaster panel cut to the perfect size with Layering Rectangles Dies.

Snarky Sentiments Galore!

Next, I stamped the perfect sentiment using a stamp from the Clear Stamp and Die of the Month, Congratulations You’re Older. This set is full of snarky birthday greetings and works wonderfully with the entire line-up in November’s All-Clubs Crate.

For today’s card, I chose the sentiment that says, “Spring Chicken, Status Pending” and I stamped it in the upper left corner using a dark brown ink.

Finally, the card was ready for the chicken, and I glued her directly to the background panel. She’s strutting her stuff with style and class, ready to bring humor to someone’s birthday.

A Birthday Chick Worth Knowing

What I especially enjoy about this month’s die set is the comical playfulness. It’s one of those designs that makes you smile the minute you see it. We all know someone who would appreciate a birthday card with this much sass—and maybe even recognize a little of themselves in her!

I think this is such a fun reminder that birthdays should be celebrated, regardless of the number of candles on the cake. Put on those heels, pour yourself a glass of wine, and embrace every birthday with a little confidence and a whole lot of humor. And while you’re at it, grab this hilarious die set for yourself, but don’t forget the awesome sentiment set that completes it. You won’t regret it!

After all, we’ve still got it, ladies!
