There’s something undeniably nostalgic about lilacs. Their delicate petals and sweet fragrance instantly transport me to springtime gardens. Today I’m sharing two floral cards inspired by that very feeling, created with the beautiful Hero Art’s Layered Lilac Dies. These dies make it so easy to build dimension and realism, and I couldn’t resist playing with a mix of my favorite lilac shades. In addition to Hero Arts, I’ve also used products from Spellbinders and Pretty Pink Posh to complete these cards.
When it comes to lilacs, I have to admit—I love them all. The white and soft lavender varieties are my favorites for their light, sweet scent, but visually, the deep purple blooms always win my heart. For these cards, I embraced that contrast, creating one design with airy, delicate tones and another with rich, bold color.
Sweetly Scented White Layered Lilacs
For both cards, I used a softly textured background created with the Spellbinder’s Distress Mix 3D embossing folder. This subtle texture added depth without overpowering the lilacs, allowing the blooms to remain the focal point.
While each card is nearly the same, there are some key differences. For the first example, I die cut a Mint ColorWheel Cardstock panel using Stitched Torn Rectangles Dies from Pretty Pink Posh. I love how this softly frames the lilacs. This panel was glued to a folded card base cut from Alabaster ColorWheel Cardstock.

The layered lilacs were cut from Classic White and Alabaster ColorWheel Cardstock and were carefully assembled. I alternated between the two tones loving how the dies allow for natural variation. I added buttery yellow centers to each flower, cutting them from Bees Wax ColorWheel Cardstock. This is the most time-consuming part of each card, but so worth the effort!
The leaves were cut from Rainforest and Fern ColorWheel Cardstock and help frame the florals and bring balance to the overall design.
For the sentiments, I wanted something crisp and striking to contrast with the softness of the flowers. I stamped greetings from the Everyday Sentiment Strips stamp set onto black cardstock and heat embossed them with bright white embossing powder. The result is bold, clean, and modern—just the right finishing touch to ground the design.
Creating Drama with a Purple Layered Lilac
On the second card, I omitted the extra layer on the background, only 3D embossing a Fairytale ColorWheel Cardstock panel. This was glued to a folded Classic White card base.

The Layered Lilacs were cut from Violet, Mulberry and Orchid ColorWheel Cardstock and carefully assembled. I gently curled each of the petals up which gives the flowers a more realistic look. The centers were cut from Fairytale ColorWheel Cardstock and then lovingly glued into place. It helps to use a Pick Up Tool for this process!
I cut the leaves, once again, from Rainforest and Fern ColorWheel Cardstocks. They were then assembled and attached to the flowers.
I used a sentiment from the Everyday Sentiments Stamp. Because it’s one giant stamp, you always end up with a bunch of ready-to-use greetings! They’re easy to cut out with a paper trimmer or the coordinating Sentiment Strips Fancy Die.
In Summary
These two cards are a celebration of everything I love about lilacs—their beauty, their fragrance, and the way they signal the arrival of spring. Whether you’re drawn to the soft whites and lavenders or the dramatic deep purples, layered florals like these are such a joyful way to bring a bit of nature into your cardmaking. Which one do you prefer?
Thanks so much for stopping by today. I hope these layered lilac-inspired designs brighten your day and maybe even inspire you to create your own floral cards! If you’re looking for more springtime inspiration, check out my pansy card.
