A Twirling Ballerina with Birthday Magic

Who doesn’t love a little sparkle and a pretty dancer? When I saw the ballerina in Waffle Flower’s Ballerina Music Box, I knew she was going to make a darling birthday card. And when I found the sentiment that says, “Have a twirl-ific birthday,” well, I couldn’t resist!

The Sneak Peek Club

Both the Ballerina Music Box and the Ballerina Sentiment Stamp Set were products I received in Waffle Flower’s September Sneak Peek Club. I love getting these little surprises each month because they often push me to create with products I might not have picked on my own. The club also included Curtain Time Die which I did not use on today’s card.

A Wavy Rainbow of Pink

For the background, I used Simon Says Stamp’s Wavy Rainbow Die, which I ordered during the annual “Stamptember” event. I thought the wavy rainbow pattern would be the perfect backdrop for the ballerina. It gives the card plenty of movement and almost makes it look like she’s dancing across the background.

I opted to cut the wavy pieces from colored cardstock rather than just ink blending white pieces. This resulted in a large pile of extra pieces which I’ll get to use on future cards! Here’s the pile I ended up with. 🙂 I’m already dreaming of some future creations that I’ll make with these bonus pieces!

For today’s card, I chose a monochromatic color scheme using varying shades of pink, as well as white for the frame. My ColorWheel Cardstock choices were Blush, Tutu, Dahlia, Wild Berry, Merlot and of course, Classic White.

A Spotlight for the Ballerina

After creating the wavy background, I set to work on the ballerina. Her body was cut from Blush ColorWheel Cardstock while her tutu and headband were cut from Merlot. Her hair was cut from Acorn. I added small pieces of foam tape to her backside so that she’s popped up a bit.

Finally, I added a circle of vellum behind her which creates a spotlight, making her stand out a bit more against the wavy background.

A Twirl-ific Sentiment

The sentiment is such a fun one, too. “Have a twirl-ific birthday” is one of those greetings that immediately makes a card feel happy and playful. All of the stamps from Ballerina Sentiments are perfect for dance related cards.

After stamping the sentiment with black ink on white cardstock, I used scissors to cut it out. While there are cutting dies that coordinate with the stamps, they were not included with the club. I personally find “fussy-cutting” rather therapeutic-as long as I have my favorite Fiskars Easy Action Scissors!

Born to Sparkle

Of course, no ballerina card would be complete without a little sparkle! I accented the card with tiny silver sequins and gems, which add just the right amount of shine without taking away from the rest of the design. You know me—I can rarely resist adding a little something sparkly to a card!

In Summary

I really like how this card came together. The ballerina, the rainbow background, the playful sentiment, and those tiny sparkles all work together to create a card that feels cheerful and a little bit magical.

And honestly, I can’t wait to make more with these products!
