If you love building detailed scenes with a touch of whimsy, this card is one of those projects that feels just as fun to create as it is to give. I combined the charming storefront elements from Spellbinders’ City Holiday with the brand-new addition, Everyday Windows and Everyday Awnings, to create a cozy little hardware shop—then brought it to life with adorable critters from Lawn Fawn’ latest Mice Tools release.
The result? A playful, storybook-style scene that’s perfect for the man in your life.
Building the Hardware Store
The foundation of this card starts with a 5″x 7″panel of Lawn Fawn’s Bitsy Blooms 12 x 12 paper and the storefront from the City Holiday Bundle. By adding the Everyday Windows and Everyday Awnings, the shop instantly takes on more personality and dimension—those layered awnings really help frame the scene and draw your eye in. I styled the shop as a neighborhood hardware store, the kind of place where little projects (and big ideas) come to life.

Bringing in the Mice
This is where the magic happens. The tiny mice from the Mice Tools set are full of character and perfect for storytelling. I arranged them throughout the scene doing simple repairs—one measuring carefully, another hammering away, each one adding movement and charm. These small details make the card feel alive, like you’ve captured a moment in their busy workday.
Hardware Store Details That Make It Special
Adding finishing touches like tools, wood textures, and subtle shading helps sell the hardware store theme. The combination of the structured dies from Spellbinders and the playful stamps from Lawn Fawn creates a balance between polished and cute.
I also pulled pieces from Spellbinder’s Ski-Lodge, using the lights along the rooftop edge. I used a small die from Essential Modern Oval Dies to create the “hardware” sign and a red marker to add some detail around its edge. I used Ohuhu Alcohol Markers to color everything in.
The store front was cut from Lawn Fawn’s Woodgrain Cardstock, giving it a rustic texture which was perfect for this little hardware store. Henry Jr.’s ABC’s were used to stamp the sign, and the ladder is from Apple-solutely Awesome stamp set.

And of course, the sentiment ties it all together. The little mouse that’s sitting in the window and saying “you really measure up” is cut from Simply Celebrate Critters.
The Perfect Father’s Day Touch
A simple word bubble reading “you really measure up” adds just the right amount of humor and heart. It’s sweet without being overly sentimental, making it ideal for Father’s Day—especially for anyone who appreciates a good pun and a thoughtful handmade card.
Final Thoughts
This card is a great example of how mixing products from different brands can spark creativity. The architectural elements from Spellbinders paired with Lawn Fawn’s whimsical critters create a unique, story-driven design that feels both detailed and approachable. Whether you’re crafting for Father’s Day or just want to build a tiny world on a card front, this combination is full of possibilities—and a lot of fun to explore.
