There’s something about summertime that brings friends together, and this cheerful card captures that feeling perfectly! I created this card for the current Lawn Fawnatics Challenge #223: Summer Splash, and I had so much fun building this playful backyard scene. The parameters for this challenge are “whatever summer means to you”. Since I just got a new Blackstone grill for the backyard, I went with a BBQ theme.

Designing the Background
To create the scene, I began with a white A2 sized panel and ink blended it with Scattered Straw Distress Oxide Ink. Then I used the Draped Ribbon stencil with Dried Marigold ink.
Additionally, I cut a line of trees with Simple Stitched Tree Border (now retired) from white cardstock. I used an Ohuhu Alcohol Marker to color the tree trunks brown. Then I cut the tree “bodies” from some pink Watercolor Wishes paper. I love how the pink looks in front of the sky.

Next, I cut the grassy area from Falling Leaves 12 x 12 paper using a die from Simple Stitched Hillside. I love Lawn Fawn’s patterned papers and for this card I chose a green plaid pattern.
To finish the background, I added a white fence using Little Farm Fence Border. This helps set the scene, making it look like a fenced in yard for our yappy friends!
Adding Summertime Cuteness
To build this scene, I combined several Lawn Fawn products, including Let’s BBQ, Furry & Bright and Crazy Antics.
Nothing says summertime better than a backyard BBQ, which I stamped, die-cut and colored in with Ohuhu Alcohol Markers. I love a traditional red BBQ, and it added a bright pop of color front and center. You can almost smell the hotdog sizzling on the grill. :)The star of the show is an adorable pup hard at work behind the grill, cooking up hot dogs for his furry friend. It looks like he’s taking his grilling duties very seriously!

The dogs are from Furry & Bright which is a Christmas set, but they were perfect for my little scene. I arranged them around the grill along with some pesky ants, who always seem to show up at every backyard BBQ!
The ants needed their own treats, so I added some watermelon, chips and soda from the Crazy Antics stamp set, which is where the ants are from. I love the two ants that are up by the trees, saying “hooray!”.
Finally, I added some cute flying birds to the sky. They are from It’s a Bird stamp set and I colored them with Ohuhu Alcohol Markers.
Choosing a BBQ Pun
The sentiment, “I’m so grilled you’re my friend,” ties everything together perfectly and is from BBQ Friends stamp set. This was a limited edition “freebie” and is no longer available. It’s sweet, punny, and just right for celebrating the special friends who make life a little brighter. Whether it’s for a birthday, thank you card, or simply to let someone know you’re thinking of them, this card is sure to bring a smile.
