Christmas is Going to the Geese at Spellbinders

I couldn’t resist this month’s Merry Goosemas Crate Exclusive Die! This little goose dressed up as a Christmas tree is just too much fun, and he makes the perfect centerpiece for a festive holiday card. I think Christmas is definitely going to the geese at Spellbinders!

The Merry Goosemas Die Set is exclusive and only available with the purchase of the October All-Clubs Crate. I love when the All-Clubs Crate includes something a little unexpected, and this goofy Christmas goose definitely fits the bill! With four different Christmas costumes for the goose to wear, this holiday season is sure to be fun.

A Sparkling Base

For the base of my card, I chose a rich burgundy panel cut from Cranberry ColorWheel Cardstock. With the use of Sparkling Bright, the October Press & Foil Club of the Month, I added a burst of gold by hot foiling the panel. The combination of burgundy and gold gives the card a warm, traditional Christmas feel while adding plenty of sparkle.

A Goose Dressed as a Christmas Tree

The star of the card is, of course, the goose. He was cut from Classic White and Carrot ColorWheel Cardstock. He’s wearing a full Christmas tree costume complete with strings of lights and colorful ornaments. I think he’s definitely ready for the holidays!

The tree was cut from Rainforest and Fern ColorWheel Cardstock and I alternated the two colors between the four tree sections.

The ornaments are just circles and were cut from Tutu, Beeswax, Cranberry and Malibu ColorWheel Cardstock.

I kept the light strings really simple by cutting them from white cardstock and then coloring each “light” with Ohuhu Alcohol Markers that matched the ornament colors. This was much quicker than gluing tiny circles to the light string!

Before adding the goose to the card, I cut an Alabaster panel using the Playful Stitched Panels Dies. To add a little more interest to the background, I lightly ink blended behind the goose with Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide Ink. The soft yellow creates a subtle glow effect. After adding the goose to the panel, it’s almost as if the Christmas tree lights are shining around him.

I really like how that little bit of ink blending changes the look of the otherwise simple cream background, adding contrast to the white goose. It gives him a little more presence without taking attention away from all those fun Christmas details.

You Light Up the Season

For the sentiment, I used Crafted with Cheer Clear Stamp and Die of the Month. The sentiment says, “You light up the season.” I added another sentiment to the inside, which says, “Merry Goosemas!”.

I thought those were the perfect sentiments for this card, especially with all those little lights wrapped around the Christmas tree goose!

Coordination is Everything!

I love how several of the October Spellbinders Club products work together on this card. The gold foiling, exclusive goose die, and sentiment all add something different without making the card feel too busy.

And really, who wouldn’t smile when they receive a card featuring a goose dressed as a Christmas tree?
