Spellbinder’s September clubs are open to new subscribers TODAY and I am completely smitten with the new Stitching Die of the Month, Scarecrow Harvest. This character just brings a smile to my face and makes me so happy! I’ve had a blast making him up in various colors and scenes. With or without the stitching, he’s an adorable scarecrow and comes complete with cornstalks and a sunflower for his hat.
I love that each separate club is coordinated to work together, making the All-Club Crate the best bang for your buck and your creativity! Spellbinders’ really does come up with some brilliant products, and I enjoy seeing what’s new each month!
Steps for a Scarecrow Harvest Card

For today’s card, I started with a panel of Acorn ColorWheel Cardstock and textured it with the September 3D Embossing Folder of the Month, Autumn Bark. This panel was glued to a folded card base cut from Alabaster ColorWheel Cardstock.
I next used a circle die, cutting it from Bees Wax ColorWheel Cardstock. I then glued it onto the textured panel, a little higher than center.
The cornstalks were cut from Rain Forest ColorWheel Cardstock and placed on the left and right sides of the textured panel.
To Stitch or Not to Stitch

Now that my little scene was ready, I used the Scarecrow Harvest dies to cut out all of the pieces for the adorable little guy. I love that the stitching is optional for both the shirt and the hat. They can be cut with or without the stitching holes! Cardstock colors used were:
After gluing the three patches where they belonged on the hat and shirt, I quickly did the stitching. I opted to use a whip stitch as opposed to a straight stitch, but either one works. I used three strands of DMC Embroidery Floss in color #’s: 959, 743 and 740.
Once the Scarecrow Harvest pieces were stitched and pieced together, I added him front and center onto the card. I love how the yellow circle frames him almost like the sun is glowing behind him.
To finish things off, I stamped a sentiment using the Stamp & Die of the Month, Stuffed with Gratitude. It says, “You are my sunshine on a fall day”. Isn’t that just perfect for this cute scarecrow? This entire stamp set is full of great greetings that are different than any I’ve seen in the past. For example, “Thankful for whoever does the dishes”, “Thanksgiving calories don’t count” and SO many more!
The Final Detail

This card was incredibly easy to put together, but I still wanted to do something on the inside. Keeping it simple, I cut an Alabaster panel measuring 4″ x 5 1/4″ and glued it to the inside of the card base.
Wanting a frame on this inner panel, I used a black .01 Micron Pen to draw a squiggly line around the outer edges. There’s no right or wrong way to do this and it adds a nice touch! I then stamped another sentiment from Stuffed with Gratitude and glued a corn stalk in the bottom right corner.
I hope you’ve enjoyed my little adventure in crafting today! If you love scarecrows, here’s another card I made: Autumn Scarecrow. Thanks for stopping by 🙂
