Introducing Favorite Side Effect…
Today I’m sharing a birthday card that is full of humor, because sometimes laughter really is the best medicine. This card features Spellbinders Favorite Side Effect from the brand new This Is Life Complete Collection, and I couldn’t resist using the coordinating sentiment “Another year, another pill” to create this funny birthday card. This is a hilarious collection and so much fun to play with!!
On the front of the card, an adorable pill bottle is holding hands with his pill friend, and honestly, they might be my new favorite duo. There’s something so charming about turning everyday objects into characters, and these two feel supportive, relatable, and just a little bit sarcastic. The sentiment sets the tone perfectly with: “Another year, another pill.” Aren’t birthdays funny like that? I can certainly relate!

I chose a color scheme of green and aqua & I’ll admit that the cute pill on the right kinda looks like a pickle. (It wasn’t my intent, but oh well) 🙂 I wanted a fun two-toned background, so I cut two panels, one green and another aqua, in half diagonally and placed the pieces together.
Additionally, I cut two ovals, white & tan, using Essential Modern Ovals Dies. These were layered together and adhered on top of the diagonal backdrop. Onto the ovals, I added the pill bottle and pill, holding hands of course!

I just love how their eyes are gazing at each other. Spellbinder’s is always coming up with genius ideas, and the eye dies qualify as just that! Take a look at the two dies that are used to create the eyes. Genius!! Flip it 90 degrees to look the opposite direction. And if you ever need a soda pop top, there ya go! LOL

On the inside of Another Year, Another Pill…
Of course, I couldn’t stop at the front. When you open the card, the theme continues with another pill and a sentiment that made me laugh out loud while crafting: “Now available in barely holding it together strength”—followed by a simple but heartfelt, “happy birthday.”
I love when the inside of a card adds that extra punch. It feels like a little surprise for the recipient and really ties the whole design together. This one definitely says, I see you, I get it, and I hope your birthday is great anyway.
I’m happy that Favorite Side Effectincludes both the die set and a stamp set full of slightly snarky sentiments! This set can work alone or with the rest of the This is Life Complete Collection.
If you enjoy cards that mix cute illustrations with clever sentiments, the This Is Life Complete Collection is full of possibilities. This card was so much fun to make, and I already have ideas for more projects using this set. I’m also thinking that the Pasta Friends Dies might offer more arm/leg combinations. You can see that set in my previous post: Show Your Love…
Thanks for stopping by today—I hope this card gave you a smile and maybe a bit of inspiration for your next crafty session! 💊💖
Until next time,
~Krista
