Believe it or not, it’s already time to start thinking about Christmas cards—ready or not! I may not have my holiday spirit in full swing just yet, but Spellbinders’ new Merry Moments Kit makes it a breeze to dive into festive card making.
I’ve never been much of a card kit kind of girl—I usually love starting from scratch and letting creativity lead the way. But the Merry Moments Kit totally caught my eye with its massive stash of goodies, and I just had to give it a whirl. Spoiler alert: I’m so glad I did!
This limited edition kit comes with a supply of colored card stock, patterned paper, textured & pre-folded card bases with envelopes in two sizes, a stamp set, stickers, rub-on’s, decorative cut-out elements, 3-D elements, sentiments and more! You can see the entire contents HERE!
This mega kit allows for total control of your creativity, as it does not come with explicit instructions. If you prefer out-of-the-box designs, simply check out Spellbinders examples as well as the cards I’m sharing today! You’ll be whipping out your own beautiful creations in no time!
It’s time to gather some ideas, order your kit and get crafting!
Idea #1: a diagonal layout
As one of my favorite card layouts, I like to lay two panels of designer paper (2 different patterns) one on top of the other and then make a diagonal cut simultaneously. This creates four panels (2 of each pattern). The following two cards are an example of this fun layout.
Here’s the first one, in landscape position.

Here’s the second diagonal card, in portrait position.

Idea #2: Add a layered tag
This layout is quite simple and very quick to implement. Choose a piece of patterned paper to use as your background. Layer a printed tag over a larger solid tag, add a bow and place it on the background. (Each of these pieces can be found in the Merry Moments Kit!)

Here’s another with some doves as embellishments and a designer strip down the left side.

Idea #3: A trio of color blocks
This layout uses two different patterned papers-one for the background, and another for the trio of rectangles. My sample is an A2 sized card, with each rectangle measuring 1 1/4” x 3 1/4”. Each is centered onto a red rectangle measuring 1 3/8” x 3 3/8”. Once again, this entire card is made with kit materials.

Idea #4: a chopped block
Another simple layout is what I call the “chopped block”. To make this, simple cut a patterned paper into 5 1/2” x 4 1/4” panel and the cut it from corner to corner, diagonally. Next you’ll lay the triangles across a card base (5 1/2 x 4 1/4), adhere and then trim off the excess. Add a center focal point and sentiment from the kit.

Idea #5: K.I.S.S. layout (Keep It Super Simple)
Choose a patterned paper for your background panel. In this sample, I used a scalloped rectangle die to cut my piece. (Not part of the kit) Adhere panel to card base. Use decorative pieces from the Merry Moments Kit to embellish the card! Add kit sequins for added interest and sparkle.

Idea #6: Wonky Strips Layout
Another fun layout is to cut scraps of patterned paper into strips in varying widths and lengths. Lay strips in a haphazard fashion across the card front and adhere. Add some staples to some of the strip ends for a very unique look. Use tags or embellishments from the kit to decorate over the strips.

Idea #7: A Banner Background
Banners are a great way to create a background! Simply cut some 1 3/4” to 2” strips, notch the ends and layer them vertically from the top of the card. The lengths should vary. In my example, I made two banners and then placed the Christmas train embellishment over them.

I hope I’ve inspired you with some layout ideas for the Merry Moments Kit or for your card making in general 🙂 Don’t wait too long to order your kit as these are a limited edition and will sell out quickly! Because it literally comes with everything you need (minus a paper trimmer/scissors), it’s great for gift giving, camping or travel projects, family craft time with the kids and your own personal craft sessions!
After my initial crafting session with the kit and making 11 cards, it doesn’t look like I’ve made a dent in the supplies. But…should you find yourself running low on its contents, there are replenishment pieces available at Spellbinders. It’s truly a great value with hours of fun inside!

Until next time,
