Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I’m truly a lucky duck to know you and I’ve been stitching up some fun for today using one of Lawn Fawn’s many embroidery patterns. These are offered from the Embroidery Hoop Patterns page on their website and are completely FREE! Made to fit their Embroidery Hoop Die, these designs work up quickly and are such fun to do. Find your favorite patterns and print them out for future use!
Making a Lucky Duck Card
I began by die-cutting the embroidery hoop from some Spellbinders Mint ColorWheel Cardstock and then gathered my stitching supplies. I followed the thread suggestions on the pattern as closely as possible, substituting when necessary and then quickly stitched up my shamrock.
Continuing on, I pulled out Lawn Fawn’s Rub-a-Dub Dub stamp set and stamped some of the cute ducks. I chose this stamp set to go with the stitched shamrock simply because of the included sentiment. It reads, “I’m a lucky duck to have you as my friend” and is perfect for this St. Patrick’s Day card! After die-cutting the stamped images, I used Ohuhu alcohol markers to color them in.

Rainbows Add So Much Joy
Next came the background layout, which is a simple white panel that I stenciled using Lawn Fawn’s Corner Rainbow Stencil Set. I added some grassy pieces at the bottom which were cut with Grassy Hillside Borders Dies. Finally, I cut the whole panel down to size with Spellbinder’s Linear Touch Rectangles and Tag Dies. These dies create an etched edge, which adds a very subtle frame.
Finally, it was time to put all of the pieces together! I glued the stitched hoop to the center of the background and then popped up the little ducks around it. I pieced together the sentiment with stamps from Rub-a-Dub Dub stamp set and then stamped it onto a white strip of cardstock. This was adhered at the bottom of the card.
A First for St. Patrick’s Day??
In all my years of cardmaking, I can’t honestly say if I’ve ever made cards for St. Patty’s Day, until this year! I shared my first one on Saturday, found here, which was so much fun to design. Today’s was a joy and I hope you liked it too 🙂
I hope you’re wearing green today, avoiding a pinch and looking forward to Spring! I certainly am!
