Hello Friends! I’d like you to meet my new friend, Oscar! He’s from the new Cheerful Chirps Collection over at Spellbinders and is available for purchase starting TODAY! Free Hugs Oscar is available along with more of his feathered friends-Pretty Birds and Flying High. Coordinating products include Bamboo Screen 3D Embossing Folder & Spread Your Wings sentiments.
Oscar looks great in any color, but I like him best in bright colors! Today’s card is a vibrant display of tropical color and I’ve incorporated several other sets to compliment Oscar.
Additional Products I used…
You might recognize the wavy borders at the top and bottom from my previous post, Scenes From the Ocean, showcasing the June Stitching Die, Ahoy Matey. On today’s card, I omitted any stitching and just die cut the outline from a bright orange, fuchsia and lime green. I ran the two green pieces through Scattered Tropics 3D Embossing Folder, giving them a leafy tropical texture. This is one embossing folder that I use often and am happy to have it in my stash! Plus, the Spellbinder embossing folders are a nice big size (5 3/4” x 8 1/2”), perfect for virtually any project and card size.
Additionally, I used dies from both Tropical Friends and Grand Tropical Flamingos, cutting several leaves and flowers to complement Oscar! These additional products work great with the Cheerful Chirps Collection.

Making Cheerful Chirps, Free Hugs Oscar…
Oscar’s body was cut from some bright mango colored card stock. His top feathers, wing & cheek were cut from bright pink while his beak & feet were cut from orange. I sponged around the edges of everything with coordinating ink colors to create some depth before piecing him together.
Putting it all together…
After deciding on a soft blue sky color for my card base, it was time to begin assembly. The wavy border pieces were layered together in an orange, pink, green pattern and adhered to the card base at the top and bottom. I made sure to tuck in a tropical leaf at the bottom before gluing the bottom down.
A brown perch (or branch) was added for Oscar to sit on, front and center, the star of the show! More leaves were added and then a final accent of three white flowers finished off the assembly. Finally, I added the die cut “free hugs” sentiment, which is part of the Free Hugs Oscar dies.
I hope this card brings a smile to your face as you’ve gotten to know Oscar, the adorably cute Cheerful Chirps parrot! Please consider subscribing to my blog so you’ll never miss a post. I’ll be sharing some of Oscar’s friends in my next episode!
Until next time,
~Krista
