There’s something so comforting about a handmade quilt—the textures and patterns, sewn together by the hands of someone you know. I have a treasured quilt that my great grandmother sewed by hand. Every single stitch! Talk about talent and dedication! While I never had the pleasure of knowing her, I wanted to capture that cozy, creative spirit in today’s card.
For Quilt products: Head to Waffle Flower!
I pulled out some Waffle Flower products that are geared towards quilting and began by selecting the Tiny Square Texture Die and it’s coordinating Tiny Square Stencils. Starting with a white panel measuring 5.25″ x 4″, I ran it through my die-cut machine with the texture die. I placed the textured panel onto my Grip Mat, laying the first stencil on top and pressing it’s edges onto the stickiness of the mat. I love how this mat holds everything in place while I work!
Using some water-based inks in yellow and mango I began to fill in the background with the first and second stencils. I omitted using the third stencil.

Sewing Machine Fun
Once the background was finished, it was time the sewing machine which I cut using Sew Fun Die set. I chose the machine colors based on what my very first sewing machine looked like. It was an old, used machine that I bought for $60 back when I was in high school. That machine may have been a funny color by today’s standards, but boy was it a workhorse!
I added a spool of pink thread to the top of the sewing machine, along with a piece of “fabric” that was cut from Lawn Fawn’s Gleeful Gradients 6×6 paper pad. It was textured it with Waffle Flower’s Meandering Texture Die.
Finally, I added some die-cut pieces as accents: scissors, spools of thread and a safety pin. I then stamped the sentiment from Quilted Hug Sentiments stamp set and cut it out with it’s coordinating die. The last step was to adhere this quilted panel to a pink card base, essentially framing the whole thing.
When Waffle Flower started it’s quilting line of products, I knew I was in serious trouble! Or more accurately, my bank account was in trouble! LOL! I still don’t own it all, but I’m working on it 🙂 You can also make a quilted look by repeating a pattern, as I did in this previous post: Capturing Autumn.
I have a dear girlfriend that loves quilts and has a dare-we-say HUGE collection, so I was thinking of her while making this card. This may end up being her next birthday card!
Do you enjoy bringing your hobbies into your cardmaking designs? If so, what are they? I’d love to hear from you!
Until next time,
~Krista
