I wanted to create something bright, playful, and full of personality for Lawn Fawn’s Challenge #215: All Things Rainbow. Since rainbows always make me smile, I went with a soft color palette and a fun interactive design to make this card extra special!

The Front – Pirates & Rainbows
I used the Ta-Da Diorama Dies & it’s Sunburst Window Add-On from Lawn Fawn to build a dimensional scene right on the card front. These dies are perfect for creating a little window into a tiny world — and what better world than one filled with cheerful pirates and a gorgeous rainbow?
I ink blended the front panel using Distress Oxide Inks in Tea Dye, Salvaged Patina & Peacock Feathers and my favorite blending brushes. I then splattered the panel with black & white paint before die-cutting.
The sliding “doors” were cut from Lawn Fawn’s Gleeful Gradients 12 x 12 Paper while the background/base was cut from Really Rainbow Paper.
The adorable pirates from the Ahoy, Matey stamp set were colored in soft, happy shades to match the color theme. I used Ohuhu Alcohol Ink Pens to color the images. The rainbow arches across the window opening, adding that perfect pop of color for the challenge. I love how the layered diorama makes it almost like peeking into a storybook.

💰 The Inside – A Hidden Treasure behind the Rainbow
When you open the card, the fun continues! Inside, there’s a treasure chest overflowing with gold — because what’s a pirate adventure without treasure?
The front sentiment reads: “You’re a Treasure“, which just ties everything together in such a fun way.
It makes the card perfect for birthdays, thank-you’s, or just letting someone know how much they mean to you.

Why I Loved This Challenge
This Lawn Fawn theme was so much fun because of the bold color opportunities. Pairing that with pirates made the design feel whimsical and adventurous.
The Ta-Da Diorama Dies and its companion set, Sunburst Window Add-On, really brought the scene to life, and adding the treasure inside created that extra little surprise moment. Interactive elements always make handmade cards feel even more special.
This card was such a joy to create, and I can’t wait to see all the colorful inspiration from this challenge! If you like 3D interactive cards, here’s another one that I shared, “A Splash of Sunshine“, which uses the Platform Pop-Up Dies!
Until next time,
~Krista
