Pleated Ruffle Technique with Watercolor Wings by Stampin’ Up!

Watercolor Wings Pleated Ruffle Card

This folding technique is shown in the Autumn 2015 issue of Card Maker magazine, & since it is currently on the newsstand, I don’t feel comfortable telling how it’s done.  If you like it, go pick up your copy!  The magazine did not have a name for the technique, so I named it the Pleated Ruffle.  My friend & customer, Phyllis Lynch, helped me figure out a good name!

We made this card in my Technique Class in September and I used some retired In Colors (Strawberry Slush & Crisp Cantaloupe). The butterfly was stamped 4 times…the solid base color was Crisp Cantaloupe, then accents with Strawberry Slush & Blackberry Bliss.  Finally we stamped again with the solid base image using VersaMark and heat embossed with Iridescent Ice embossing powder.  In real life it is VERY sparkly!

I like this technique as a way to use up 2-sided designer paper, but small patterns work best especially for the back side since you see very little of it amongst the ruffles.
