Blended Ink Ombre Stenciling Technique

Taking the SIP #63 Challenge

This week’s challenge over at Stamps, Ink, Paper is all about wings.  I am submitting my Blended Ink Ombre Stenciling Technique card, which we did in one of my recent technique classes.  The colors are bright and playful, and you can make your own by following my tutorial below.  I hope you enjoy it!

Definition of “Ombre”- Colors or tones that shade into each other.

We will be blending the following colors: Daffodil Delight, Watermelon Wonder, Tempting Turquoise and Pacific Point.

Card base: 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ (Tempting Turquoise)
Mat One: 4″ x 5 1/4″ (Pacific Point)
Mat Two: 3 3/4″ x 5″ (Whisper White)

Onto a Whisper White panel measuring 3 3/4″ x 5″, sponge a quarter of the panel with Daffodil Delight, then another quarter with Watermelon Wonder and so on with Tempting Turquoise and Pacific Point. Use a different sponge for each color.

For a smoother look, use a circular motion, starting on the place mat & working your way onto the panel.

Lay your desired stencil over the panel. Begin sponging at the top with Daffodil Delight, rubbing up & down in the yellow section. It’s okay if you rub some yellow a little ways into the watermelon section.

Continue with Watermelon Wonder, then Tempting Turquoise and ending with Pacific Point.

Remove your stencil and you’ll see a brilliant ombre stenciled pattern!
Add your finished panel to a card and decorate as desired!

*Please note that the Happy Patterns Decorative Mask Stencils are no longer available, but take heart…there are some fabulous new stencils in the Holiday Catalog which starts on September 1.  They’re called Seasonal Decorative Masks and can be found on page 43 and would work perfectly for this technique.
