It has been cold here the last couple of days and I’ve been drinking lots of hot tea to keep warm. I’ve been seeing some inspiring cards using the new Cups & Kettle Framelits and coordinating stamps, A Nice Cuppa, and decided I had better pull mine out and use them. I chose some bright colors because I’m longing to see the Spring flowers burst into bloom and push the dreary gray skies away. I chose Melon Mambo, Old Olive, Daffodil Delight and Rich Razzleberry for my palette.
Are you wondering how I did the background? Take a peek at my Drywall Spackling Technique instructions below and then go try it! We made this during my February technique classes.
You’ll find another version of the same card at the end of this post.
Here’s what you’ll need for the Drywall Spackling & Stencil Technique
*Dap Lightweight Spackling
*Metallic Gold Acrylic Paint
*Palette knife
*Paper Plate
*Stencil
Lay your desired stencil over a piece of Very Vanilla card stock cut to 5.25″ x 2″. I like to use a little temporary Tombow adhesive on the back of my card stock to keep it from moving. You can also put a couple strips of tape on the edges of the stencil to hold it steady.
On a paper plate, mix approx. 1 TBSP of drywall spackling with approx. 1/2 tsp of metallic gold acrylic paint. You’ll need a palette knife or something similar.
Mix it up…
…until it looks like this:
Scrape the mixture over your stencil. If you don’t have a palette knife, a credit card works really well.
Scrape off the excess…
Remove the stencil
Sprinkle some gold glitter over the paste. Allow to dry for about 30 minutes or you can use your heat gun, holding it 8-10″ away, and blowing from the front and the back.
Be sure to wash the spackling off of your stencil before it dries.
Now take a peek at my other color scheme…
I used So Saffron, Soft Suede and Early Espresso on this version. Which one do you like best?
