Wood Crate with Coffee Cafe

Coffee Cafe and pop up Wood Crate

My life is full of coffee lovers (including myself!), so I had to order the Coffee Cafe Bundle (#145331 ) as soon as it was available. I also had to have the Coffee Break Designer Series Paper because the colors in it really speak to me and I just fell in love with it at first glance!

Wood Crate with Coffee Cafe

The inside of this card is where the magic happens.  I made a crate using the new Wood Crate Framelit (#143730), stamping it with Hardwood (#133035), cutting out the bottom sections of the crate before assembling and then adhering it to the inside of the card.  It folds flat when you close the card and is put together similarly to the “card in a box” technique which became popular over the past couple of years.

I glued a section of a punched circle next to the crate and used it as a pocket for a gift card.

3D Wood crate inside coffee card

Here’s another picture.  The images inside the crate are cut from the Coffee Break Designer Series Paper (#144155).

For a Great Friend

I just love these new 2017-19 In Colors!  Doesn’t the Lemon Lime Twist make quite the bold statement as a background for the Berry Burst/Powder Pink flower?

I used the same stamp for the background as was used for the leaves around the flower.  The swirl in the center is the “negative” piece out of one of the swirly circles from Swirly Scribbles Thinlit Dies.

Lovely Inside & Out, Stampin' Up! In Colors

Summer time is my VERY favorite time of year and bright colors make me extra happy every day, in every season!

Enjoy the beauty of this season!

Delightful Pocket of Daisies

When I was a little girl, my sister and I would play outside and pick the flowers growing in the yard and then give them to our mom who would proudly place them in a vase.  I’m pretty sure there were times when those flowers got tucked into our jacket pockets while we continued playing, only to be found later when they were thrown into the wash.  We learned early on that mom didn’t like finding things in our pockets and that we were to check them before throwing the clothing in the laundry.

We lived in a small town that I would consider to be country living, (or pretty darn close to it!), so  I wanted this card to have a country feel to it.

Bandana Daisy Delight, Stampin' Up!

I used the Paisleys & Posies stamp set with Cherry Cobbler ink on Real Red card stock to create a bandana-looking background. The Soft Sky pocket was cut out with a die from the Pocket Framelit Dies, complete with side flaps that are glued down so that you really end up with a pocket to tuck things into!

I stamped the daisies (from Daisy Delight) on Daffodil Delight card stock with Night of Navy ink and then punched them out the the Daisy punch. Did you know that this punch is Stampin’ Up’s most popular punch in 5 years? It’s so popular that they haven’t been able to keep it in stock for any length of time since the new 2017-18 catalog started!  More are coming into the warehouse soon, so you’ll be able to get one….if you don’t blink!

Lovely Inside & Out Trio

I made this trio of cards, starting with a really simple version at the left and then stepping it up by adding more details for each of next two cards.  The stamp set is Lovely Inside & Out along with the Lovely Words Thinlits.  To step up the flowers in the second and third cards I used Swirly Scribbles Thinlits.

Lovely Inside & Out Trio by Krista Thomas,

The colors are Lemon Lime Twist, Berry Burst, Powder Pink and Tranquil Tide, four of Stampin’ Up’s new In Colors

for 2017-19.   Here are the three samples shown separately:

Lovely Inside & Out with Lovely Words

This is a great card for beginners, with basic stamping and a die-cut word.  I’ll step it up a bit for the second card below…

Lovely Inside & Out, stepped up version

On this second “stepped up” version I have added Powder Pink swirls and a glitter dot on each flower.  Finally, on the third version below,  I added punched out flowers popped up on top of the stamped ones, plus a swirl and a glitter dot.  These swirls are the negative portion of the swirls on card #2.  I also added some leafy Tranquil Tide swirls behind the flowers and changed the sentiment just a bit.

Which one is your favorite?  I typically would not pair Lemon Lime Twist with Powder Pink, but somehow I think it worked on these cards.

If you do not already have a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator and would like to place an order from me, just click on any of the products listed below and you’ll be magically transported to my online store and thank you from the bottom of my heart!

I hope you make time to stamp today!

Lovely Fireworks

Today as we celebrate our freedom and the birth of our great nation,  let’s remember those who have kept it free…our veterans!  As you watch a parade, enjoy a picnic in the park or sit at a fireworks display, be sure to thank the vets who are around you.

A veteran  – whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve – is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to “The United States of America,” for an amount of “up to and including THEIR LIFE.”

Happy 4th of July everyone!

The cards I’m sharing today were made with a stamp set called “Lovely Inside & Out” along with a few sentiments and accessory stamps from other sets.  The colors I used are Real Red, Tempting Turquoise, Pacific Point and Night of Navy.

Celebrate freedom…

Fireworks card with Lovely Inside & Out

Patriotic Inside & Out…

Lovely Inside & Out fireworks card for 4th of July

The silver swirls on top of the big fireworks were made with the negative (or throw-away) piece from the small swirl die in Swirly Scribbles Thinlits.  The small fireworks are from a current hostess set called In the City.

Lovely Inside & Out fireworks card

The words on the banner are from Happy Birthday Gorgeous, Sunshine Sayings and Labeler Alphabet.

Lovely Inside & Out fireworks card by Krista Thomas,

Have a safe and happy 4th, everyone!

Day at the Beach U Fold Technique

My husband and I just spent a week camping on the Oregon coast which is one of my favorite places in the world.  The weather was in the 70’s and just beautiful, while our home town was experiencing a heat wave in the 3 digits.  So we enjoyed ourselves immensely, walked on the beach, sat around a campfire and got some much needed R & R.

Here’s a little beach scene I created using Day at the Beach stamp set and the U Fold Technique, which is really quite simple.

Day at the Beach U Fold Technique, by Krista Thomas

The palm trees were stamped with Avant Garden, a Sale-a-Bration set from earlier this year, and it’s actually a flower but worked perfectly as a palm tree!

Here are the instructions for making this Day at the Beach U Fold Technique:

U Fold Tutorial

You will need the following 3 card stock pieces to make this U Fold card:

Pool Party- 4 1/4″ x 7 1/2″

Crumb Cake- 1 1/2″ x 5 1/2″

Island Indigo- 2″ x 3 1/2″

U Fold Tutorial

Score the 4 1/4″ x 7 1/2″ panel (Pool Party) at 1 1/2″, 2 1/2″, 5″ and 6″

U Fold Technique

Score the 2″ x 3 1/2″ panel (Island Indigo) at 1/2″ and 3″.

Use a scallop edgelit across one long edge to mimic ocean waves. (The new Seasonal Layers Thinlits has a scallop edgelit, as well as the Adirondack chair used on this card)

U Fold Technique

Fold the Pool Party (4 1/4″ x 7 1/2″) panel on it’s score lines going across as: mountain, valley, valley, mountain.

Fold the Island Indigo (2″ x 3 1/2″) panel on it’s fold lines, both as mountain. Those end tabs will face the rear of the card.

U Fold Technique

Glue Island Indigo panel between the 2 1/2″ & 5″ score lines of the Pool Party panel.

U Fold Technique

Stamp and sponge the Crumb Cake (1 1 /2″ x 5 1/2″) panel and then glue it on the front flaps of the Pool Party panel.  The scallop-y top edge was done with a non-Stampin’ Up framelit.

Finish by stamping and cutting out the palm trees, dolphin, sun, star fish, drink and Adirondack chair. Glue these elements into place.

This card will fit into an A2 sized envelope by folding one end in and the other end flat.

I hope you enjoyed this little beach scene and I also hope you make one of your own….go get inky!

Inlaid Eclectic Flower

Beauty from ashes…

Sometimes I wander into my craft room without really knowing what I want to work on and I’ll pick up some remnant from a previous day.  You know, those scraps or die cut pieces that you didn’t end up using?  Well, that’s where this card originated from.  That blue flower was just laying on my table, lost and lonely, until I picked it up and turned it into a thing of beauty.  Surrounded by Berry Burst and backed by Night of Navy, this little blue flower just came to life and it’s happy and loved now as an Inlaid Eclectic Flower.  Sort of reminds me of all those misfit toys on an island that Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer discovers and then tells Santa about…

Inlaid Eclectic Flower by Krista Thomas,

Seriously though, didn’t it turn out lovely?  I like it and I like you (SMILE).

Take time today to rescue a lonely scrap in your craft room.  I hope you do!

Dazzling Double Diamond

Now that’s some BLING!

In my last post I shared about the Eclectic Layers Thinlits and how the diamond dies coordinate with You’re Brilliant stamp set.

My card today features the two diamond dies.  First I cut out the solid diamond shape from Silver Glimmer Paper, then I cut the faceted detail die from Silver Foil paper.  Once the two are layered, you’ve got a dazzling double diamond.  Better put on your sunglasses!

Eclectic Layers Diamond by Krista Thomas,

I placed the diamond on a Night of Navy circle and then onto a split background of Naturally Eclectic Designer Series Paper.  Now I’ve got a card ready for the next wedding engagement that comes along.

You, My Friend, are Priceless!

Another “hidden gem” (no pun intended!)

Today I’d like to share another “hidden gem” in the 2016-17 Stampin’ Up annual catalog.  It’s the You’re Priceless stamp set which is all about gems, diamonds and everything bling.  What’s cool about this set, is that the diamond shape can be cut out with a die from the Eclectic Layers Thinlits.  There are two coordinating dies, the diamond outline and the faceted detail diamond.  On this card I only used the outline to cut out the stamped image, but I’ll soon be showing how beautiful the two work together (come back for my next post!).

The Naturally Eclectic designer series paper is what really pulls this card together, with it’s vibrant colors and gems of all shapes & sizes.

You, my friend, are priceless…

Priceless Eclectic Diamond by Krista Thomas,

Currently I am fighting a summer cold that seems to be going around.  My friend Vicki just stopped by with some essential oils for me to use, in hopes of kicking this cold to the curb.  She is always thinking of others and I am so blessed to have her as a friend.  So my dear friend, this card says it all…you’re priceless!

Please come back for my next post where I’ll show you how the two diamond dies work together.  You can sign up to receive my posts by email, then you’ll never miss another one.

All of the products used are listed below and can be ordered simply by clicking on the thumbnail picture below which will take you to my Stampin’ Up store.

I hope you stamp today!
