One of a Kind Beetles & Bugs

Iridescent Beetle by Krista Thomas, Stampin' Up! Occasions 2017, Beetles & Bugs, www.regalstamping.com

I’m not really sure why I love this stamp set, but I do.  Maybe it’s because I grew up in a neighborhood of boys and spent hours with them catching bugs, pollywogs, snakes and all things icky.  Perhaps it’s because I raised three boys of my own and now have three grandsons.  And boys love bugs and all things icky, right? So perhaps it rubbed off on me…I like icky things!  Whatever the reason, I’ve always loved those iridescent beetles, so I had to try my hand at stamping one.

First I stamped the outline of the beetle with Coastal Cabana on a Bermuda Bay panel.  Then I stamped the same image with Memento Tuxedo Black on a So Saffron piece and used a circle framelit from Stitched Shapes to cut it out.

I had to look through my stash of retired stamps to find the “No. 1” and “One of a kind” stamp.  They were in a set called Postage Collection, which was a hostess set in 2013-14.

I then stamped the solid “filler” beetle stamp with VersaMark and sprinkled an embossing powder called Iridescent Peacock onto it.  The colors change from blue to green to orange, depending on how long you heat set it.  It’s probably 25 years old and made by Embossing Arts, Co.  and has always been one of my favorites.

I hope you can appreciate my card, even if you don’t like icky things!  Have a happy new year and I’ll see you in 2017!
