Gated Garden with This Little Piggy

My UPS driver just delivered this beautiful Detailed Gate Thinlit Die from the Stampin’ Up 2017 Holiday Catalog and I couldn’t wait to play with it.  It is featured in the Halloween section of the catalog and has a spooky graveyard stamp set that coordinates with it, but as you can see here, it’s perfect for everyday uses!

I did find that it’s a bit fussy to cut out because it’s so intricate, so here’s what I did to get good results…run the die and card stock through the Big Shot two times and then rotate the die & card stock 45 degrees and run it through another two times.  Use the die brush to push out all the loose pieces and then your gate is ready for use.

My favorite trick for cutting with intricate dies…

Another trick for getting a good cut is to lay the cardstock and die on 4 to 6 layers of new dryer sheets (I use Unscented Bounce).  Run all of that through your Big Shot.  When you peel the card stock off of the dryer sheets, the negative pieces will stay on the dryer sheet.  The only “bad” part of using this method, is that the dryer sheets leave a film on the back side of the paper.  Not a problem if you’re gluing it down, but in this case, it’s not glued down.  I use this dryer sheet trick quite often for intricate framelits.  I’m not sure who to credit with this idea, but whoever it was, “thank you!!”.

The finished gate can be cut in half so that it opens in the middle, but for this card I kept it whole and just scored and folded the left side at 1/4″ to create a flap.  That flap then glues behind the front panel which measures 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″.  The right side of the gate was trimmed off to be flush with the right edge of the card.

I pulled stamps from several different sets to create this beautiful garden scene which is stamped on a white panel measuring 4” x 5 1/4”.  After masking in the background trees and coloring in the wishing well, I just couldn’t resist adding this cute little pig.  So all in all, four stamp sets were used and they’re shown below in the product list.

The greeting says “This little piggy…says, may all your wishes come true.”
