Detailed Dragonfly with Puzzle-Pieced Background Technique
I cut this large detailed dragonfly from a panel that had been sponged with So Saffron, Peekaboo Peach and Flirty Flamingo. I then cut out a black dragonfly, snipped off the wings and glued the black body to the sponged dragonfly. All of this was accomplished with the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits from the Stampin’ Up 2017 Occasions Catalog.
The puzzle-pieced background technique…
The multi-colored background was made by layering three different panels (all 4″X 5.25″) together and cutting them at the same time. To do this puzzle technique, you’ll want to number the corners 1,2,3 & 4 on the backside of each panel before cutting them. Layer them with the numbers in the same positions before cutting. When you end up with 4 pieces of each color, it gets mighty confusing to piece them back together. To do so, you’ll use one corner labeled #1, one of #2, and so on. I hope that makes sense!
I glued my puzzle panels onto a black panel 4″ x 5.25″ before embossing them with the Hexagon Dynamics embossing folder.
The olive hexagon was made using the Window Box Thinlit and is layered over a piece of black glimmer paper. “For you” was cut with a die from the Mini Treat Bag Thinlit set. I added a little sparkle to the dragonfly with my Wink of Stella Glitter Brush.
All of the products are listed below and can be ordered (with the exception of the Black Glimmer Paper which is no longer available) by visiting my Stampin’ Up store here.
I hope you like my card!
Seize the cake and blow out those candles!
I used black card stock and a candle die from the Window Box Thinlits to make this candle card, placing pieces of colored paper behind the openings. The die has a row of five candles, so it took three passes through the Big Shot to complete the strip.
When Stampin’ Up comes out with new die sets, I always like to consider how I might use some of the smaller dies in the set, which are sometimes easy to overlook. They often include things like little words, bows, tags, edgings, or, in this case, candles!
I chose bright colors which make this a very festive birthday card. Don’t you agree?
Puzzle-pieced background explained…
One of my favorite colors is purple, so for this card I combined Elegant Eggplant and Sweet Sugarplum. I layered two 3.75″x 5″ panels together and then cut them at the same time, then used two of each color to create this puzzle-pieced background. To make the background, number each corner on the backside of each panel before cutting (1 through 4), which makes it easier to piece together after they’re cut. They are then glued onto a 4″x 5.25″ white panel and then placed onto the white card base.
The silver foil dragonfly is positioned on a hexagon that is made with the new Window Box Thinlit.
