Ocean & Coffee Theme Framed Art

I have been busy getting ready for my upcoming framed art classes and I’m thrilled at how excited everyone is to attend!  I’ve already shared the wine theme framed art in November and today I’ll be sharing the ocean & coffee themes, along with some updated pictures of the wine theme. So much fun and it’s all on a 12 x 12 canvas!

If you’d like to purchase a finished piece to call your own, just head on over to my Etsy store here.

If you love the ocean and walking on the beach, then you’re a lot like me and you’ll understand my inspiration for this beach themed art.  One of my favorite beaches in Oregon is Turtle Rock in Gold Beach.  Maybe you can see from this picture how this beach got it’s name…and that’s me sharing my morning coffee 🙂

Turtle Rock in Gold Beach Oregon

This rock formation is huge, so I am standing on a ledge in the foreground, which you cannot see, so that I could share my drink with Mr. Turtle.  Without that ledge, I couldn’t have even reached his chin!

The ocean & coffee…two of my favorite things!!

Now without further ado, here’s the framed art…

I had so much fun pulling out lots of different stamp sets and accessories to create these pieces.

Here are a couple more updated pictures of the wine frames that I shared in November.

Shaving Cream Technique

Shaving Cream Technique  (with a Spritz!)

One of my all time favorite techniques is the messy one where I get to play with shaving cream!  If you’ve never had this experience, well, you’ve missed out on some fun.  Let me show you how the shaving cream technique is done, in a fun new way.

You’ll notice the background on this card is a dreamy, swirly mix of blue and green & my intent was that it would look like shafts of light permeating through the ocean.

Let’s get messy!

Are you ready to see how it’s done?  Here we go!

Shaving1

Squirt a card-sized puddle of cheap white shaving cream into a pan or cookie sheet.

Shaving2

Smooth it out with a spatula, keeping as much depth as possible.

Shaving3

Add 5-7 drops of Pacific Point ink refill to a Stampin’ Spritzer and fill with water. Shake it up and spray it once or twice onto the shaving cream.

Now add 5-7 drops of Lemon Lime Twist ink refill to another Stampin’ Spritzer and fill with water. Spray it next to the Pacific Point from the previous step.

Shaving4

Use a butter knife or bone folder and make a zig zag pattern through the shaving cream, from the Pacific Point side to the Lemon Lime Twist. side. This will pull the two colors together.

Shaving6

Lay a 5″ x 3.75″ panel of Whisper White card stock onto the shaving cream and press it into the mixture until all areas of the panel have made contact.

Shaving7

Carefully lift the panel out and scrape off the shaving cream with a spatula. Set the panel aside to dry for a few minutes.

If you have more panels that you want to do, smooth out the remaining shaving cream, spritz again, zig zig again, and then proceed with your next panel.

I finished my card by stamping some foliage with Tranquil Tide ink and then layering in some torn Crumb Cake card stock, and finally tucking in a bottle full of “I love you’s”.

All of the products that I used are listed below and can be purchased from my Stampin’ Up store here or by clicking on any of the product thumbnails.

Whale of a Tag

Whale, hello there!

That’s the punny saying on this cute card which was made with Message in a Bottle stamp set.

I have just returned from a family camping trip in beautiful Bandon Oregon, just steps from the Pacific Ocean, so this card seemed fitting.  I can’t say that I saw any whales on this trip, but I have in the past and it’s such a sight!

The wavy background was made with Ruffled Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and then I accented with a few small pieces of Bundle of Love DSP.

I hope you liked today’s card.  Thanks for stopping by!

Message in a Bottle

If I’ve told you once…

I’ve told you a thousand times…I love you!  That’s the message in these pretty bottles!

Message in a Bottle with Tree Rings, Stampin' Up!

I’ve mentioned before that the colors in Coffee Break Designer Series Paper make me happy and really speak to me, so it seemed perfectly natural when I reached for it to make this project.  My card today features a stamp set called Message in a Bottle and I chose to make a background using the Tree Rings stamp.

I took my color cues from the designer paper and stamped three bottles, alternating between Soft Sky, Pear Pizzazz and Early Espresso.  I used some Glitter Enamel Dots (#144200) as an accent which added a bit of glam to this otherwise “earthy” card.  Those enamel dots are so much prettier in real life and they really do sparkle!

We often go camping on the Oregon coast and have taken many walks on the beach.  To date I have never found a bottle with a message in it, but I always keep my eyes open for the possibility!  One never knows…

Thanks for stopping by today!  Feel free to subscribe so that you’ll never miss a post.
