Flowering Cactus Product Medley for A Curvy Cactus Celebration

A Curvy Cactus Celebration

Some 25+ years ago, my sister and I both ran child daycares from our homes, a very noble but tiring job for sure!  We would often call each other and just say “Calgon, take me away!”.

It was a phrase from a tv commercial for Calgon water softener in which a lady in the midst of a stressful day raises her hands into the air and says “Calgon, take me away!”.  She is then shown lounging in a luxurious round bathtub full of bubbles, with breath-taking views all around her, and her stress and troubles melt away.

You can still see this 1978 commercial just by doing a quick search on the World Wide Web, but I’m guessing that many of you remember it well!

Lately I’ve been saying those words a lot, as we have extra family members living with us while their new home is being built.  This includes two grandchildren, ages 2 & 4, who we dearly love, but who literally wear us out!!  I wouldn’t trade this time we’re having with them for anything, well…perhaps for a nap once in a while…but I will be ready to resume my quiet and comparatively boring life once their new home is ready!  “Calgon, take me away!!”

My crafting time is hit and miss these days, but I have had time to prepare an online class which will be posted in a couple of days on January 31, so stay tuned!  It revolves around the new Flowering Cactus Product Medley from the Jan-Jun 2021 Mini Catalog, and includes a stamp set, dies, designer paper (48 sheets!!), two colors of twine and 8 sheets of felt accent flowers in 2 colors!  Wowza!!!  So all that’s needed is some card stock and a few creative ideas, and that’s where I come in!  Let me help you with the ideas so that you can enjoy a stress-free crafting session 🙂

Today I’m going to whet your appetite for these products by sharing A Curvy Cactus Celebration card.

A Curvy Cactus Celebration

I created a sweeping backdrop for my cactus trio with the use of Curvy Dies, placing a piece of the Flowering Cactus Designer Series Paper between the curves.

This product medley kit includes the felt flowers that I used as accents, giving texture and dimension to the card.  Also included in the kit are 8 sheets of designer paper that are full of cacti that can be cut with the kits coordinating dies.A Curvy Cactus Celebration

The dies include “extras” like the Saguaro cactus and the “prickles” for backgrounds and accents, as shown:

A Curvy Cactus Celebration

There’s SO much to love about this Flowering Cactus Product Medley!  The gorgeous colors pulled me right in, from the moment I first saw the catalog, and I knew this product medley would be on my very first order.

In addition to the full kit, Stampin’ Up also offers a “refill kit” so that one never needs to worry about running out of the staple items (designer paper, twine and felt flowers).  That’s a win-win for us, right?!?

A Curvy Cactus Celebration

Flowering Cactus Fun Fold Card

Flowering Cactus Fun Fold Card

Sometimes I feel like winter goes on and on forever, and summer is just a quick blip that is here today and gone tomorrow.  Do you ever feel like that?  Even though our winters here in the Pacific Northwest are not particularly cold or snowy, the gray skies just get OLD!!!

Last week we had a couple of sunny days and while the air was still brisk, it was the perfect opportunity to get outside.  Since our son’s family is still living with us while their new home is being built, the grandkids were ecstatic to get some fresh air, so off we went on a little walk!  Grandpa and I enjoyed it just as much as the kids did!

I am a summer girl and simply live for that season, and I have often said that I’d love to live in Arizona.  I could at least be a snow bird, as I know I’ll never move away from my grandkids!

With that being said, it’s no wonder that I instantly fell in love with the Flowering Cactus Product Medley that’s offered in the January-June 2021 Mini Catalog.  This is an all-inclusive kit that includes a stamp set, coordinating dies, designer paper, felt flowers and twine.

Learn about my Flowering Cactus Fun Fold Card…

I’ve enjoyed working with these products and will soon have a Flowering Cactus online class ready to share!  In the meantime, let me entice you with a fun fold card that features the designer paper and some prickly cacti.

Flowering Cactus Product Medley kit by Stampin' Up!

This fun fold was shared by Vicki Boucher, a fellow Stampin’ Up demonstrator.  Her “Pretty Perennials” card inspired me and I had to make one of my own! Vicki’s measurements were in metric, so I converted them as close as I could and then tweaked the results until it worked!

Let’s make it together…

You’ll need a Calypso Coral card base measuring 8 1/4″ x 5 1/2″.  Score this panel from the 8 1/4″ side (parallel to the short side) at 2″, 3″, 5 1/4″ and 6 1/4″.

Cut five white panels measuring:

  • 5 1/4″ 1 3/4″ (cut 2)
  • 5 1/4″ x 3/4″ (cut 2)
  • 5 1/4″ x 2″ (cut 1)

Adhere these to the card base into the size appropriate sections, as shown.

Next, you’ll need three pieces of designer paper, two of one design for the outer sections, and one of another design for the center.

Cut 2 pieces of designer paper measuring 5″ x 1 1/2″ and the center piece measuring 5″ x 1 3/4″.  Adhere these to the correct spots, as shown below:

Now it’s time to fold the card with the end result looking like my sample, shown here:

(or valley, mountain, mountain, valley)

Finally, you’ll need a focal point for the card!  I used the largest scallop rectangle from Stitched So Sweetly Dies, cutting it from Mossy Meadow card stock.

I then cut a piece of the designer paper, measuring 3 5/8″ x 2 1/2″, adhering this to the Mossy Meadow rectangle.  Onto this piece, I glued a white label, also cut with the Stitched So Sweetly Dies.

Now it’s time to add some pretties!!  You can stamp your own OR you  can die cut the cacti and flowers from one of the designer paper sheets! There are 8 of these sheets in all, so you’ll have plenty of cacti that only require die cutting!!

For today’s card, I inked the bunny ear prickly pear cactus with Pear Pizzazz ink and then sponged some Mossy Meadow ink directly onto the stamp, just along the right side.  After it was stamped onto white paper, I used the coordinating die to cut it out.

The small Christmas cactus was stamped with Mossy Meadow ink and then die cut, while the saguaro was cut from Mint Macaron card stock.  I added a few of the felt flowers in Calypso Coral and Highland Heather, as well as some designer paper flowers.

The sentiment was stamped with Mossy Meadow ink.

This fun fold card does not have an “inside”, but you could use the backside to write a note and sign it.  The card stands up on it’s own and shows itself off beautifully for those who like to display their cards!

If you have loads of designer paper that you need to use up, this card gives you that opportunity.  (I don’t know of any paper crafter who doesn’t have a stash, myself included!!)

There are many ways to use up your patterned paper stash, including this stacked card technique. This would be beautiful in the Flowering Cactus designer paper and I may have to give it a try myself!!

If you think you might be interested in taking my upcoming Flowering Cactus online class, you’ll need the kit which is listed below.  I won’t promise when the class will be ready, but my hope is that it will be available no later than mid-February.  With extra family members living with us, life is a bit more hectic than usual 🙂

Stay tuned!

If you decide to place an order with me, please use my current host code (shown below) and when you spend at least $50 during January 2021, I will mail you a handmade gift!  It is a useful gift that can be used in your craft room or elsewhere, but I won’t say more because we can all use a little surprise once in a while!

Sale-a-Bration is my favorite time of the Stampin’ Up year and in 2021 we get to “Sale-a-Brate” twice!! That’s right!  In January-February and again, with a completely new selection of freebies, in July-August.  Woo Hoo!  After a tough year in 2020, I’m READY for a year filled with extra goodness 🙂  How about you?  Are you READY?

Let’s take a peek at today’s cards…

I used products from both the mini and Sale-a-Bration catalogs, and I used a herringbone technique that was shared by Laura, at Laura’s Craft Closet.

Ready, set, Sale-a-Brate!!

First, let me tell you about the herringbone background technique, which is SO easy and incredibly FUN!

  • Cut a panel measuring 5 1/4″ x 4″
  • Cut 6-7 strips of Berry Delightful Designer Series Paper measuring 12″ x 1/2″.   This paper is a Sale-a-Bration Level 2 selection and also comes with the Berry Blessings stamp set.

Begin gluing the strips at a vertical angle, leaving approximately 1/8″ space between each strip.  Alternate paper patterns as you go and put down 2 or 3 (I only did 2 on this one).

Once the vertical strips are down, glue a few strips at a right angle to the vertical strips.  Continue gluing strips and trimming edges as you go.  As you cut the strips off of the panel, you’ll need to re-cut the strip ends so that they’re straight again. (If that doesn’t make sense, just begin the technique and I think you’ll see what I mean.)

There’s really no right or wrong way to do this, as long as you cover the panel with strips that go “this way or that”!!!

Let’s look at the finished projects, beginning with my Sweet Strawberry card.

From the January-June 2021 Mini Catalog, Sweet Strawberry Bundle includes the stamp set and the Strawberry Builder Punch making this card very easy to make with no die cutting necessary!

For the strawberry card…

I used Garden Green card stock and I cut a panel of the same color for my herringbone mat.

  • card base measures 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, folded in half
  • herringbone panel measures 5 1/4″ x 4″

I used a Real Red ink pad on the strawberries for both the outline and the filler stamps.  The leaves and berry tops were stamped with Garden Green while the flower blossoms were stamped with Daffodil Delight.  All of these images were punched out and then layered onto a Whisper White scalloped rectangle.

For the next two cards, I used the Berry Blessings stamp set, which is a Level 2 Sale-a-Bration selection and also includes the Berry Delightful Designer Series Paper.  The designer paper is SO pretty and coordinates with both of the stamp sets that were used for today’s cards.

For the blueberry card…

I used Night of Navy card stock for the card base and for the herringbone mat.

The leaves were stamped with Garden Green (outline) and Granny Apple Green (filler).  The berries were stamped with Night of Navy (outline) and Pacific Point (filler).

All of the stamping was done on the Whisper White rectangle.

For the raspberry card…

I began with a Rich Razzleberry card base and herringbone panel.  The leaves and berry tops were stamped with Garden Green (outlines) and Granny Apple Green (fillers) while the berries were stamped with Rich Razzleberry (stamp off once for the filler).

I felt like this card needed some dimension, so I fussy cut (with scissors) the leaf trio and popped it up with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Shown next, are the main products that were used:

Why Stampin’ Up?

I always enjoy card making, and even more so when the products coordinate so well.  This is why I love Stampin’ Up!  They give us quality products with ink pads and card stocks that match, in addition to ribbons and other accessories that also coordinate.

For example: the purple color in the Berry Delightful Designer Series Paper is Rich Razzleberry, so when it’s paired with that color of card stock and ink, it coordinates beautifully!

If you shop for stamping supplies at the big box stores, you might buy a piece of purple card stock, but finding the “right” purple ink pad (or any purple ink pad) may be impossible.  Shopping with Stampin’ Up takes that frustration away and makes crafting a breeze without the headache of trying to figure out what goes with what!

Do you love discounts?

I think we all love discounts and this is another reason why I joined Stampin’ Up over 20 years ago.  Demonstrators enjoy a 20-25% discount on every order, plus we get to pre-order from new catalogs a month before everyone else!

During January and February, there’s a Sale-a-Bration sign up special which includes over $182 in products for only $99 and shipping is FREE!  You get to choose your own products, plus you’ll get 5 packages of designer series paper that will debut in the next annual catalog!

Business supplies are also included, but if all you want is the discount, then just be a “hobby demonstrator” (as we so lovingly call it) and enjoy the savings every time you order 🙂

When you join my Regal Stampers Team, I will never pressure you to sell but I will welcome you and introduce you to the team!  We have a private Facebook group where you can learn, share and discuss crafting and I am always available as your up-line, if you have questions.

Join Stampin' Up today!

There’s so much to love in the new catalogs, so I hope you’ll browse the catalog PDF’s (shared above) and plan some stamping projects to keep you warm and happy in this cold winter season!

Until next time,

~Krista

How to Make a Menagerie Mouse Birthday Card

Hello Stampers,

Sorry for the long delay between posts but life has been busy!  Our middle son and his wife and 2 kids have sold their home and will soon be moving in with us while their new home is being built, so I have been cleaning out and rearranging to make room for them.  I’m even giving up half of my craft room so that they’ll have their own “family room” where they can get away from us!  It helps that my craft room is quite large (20′ x 20′), so I’ll still have plenty of space for card making. 🙂

I’ve also been getting ready for the Zoom classes for my Christmas Card Extravaganza event, which starts next Saturday, October 24.  I still have a few pre-cut kits available, so if you’d like to join in the fun, head on over to this post and see all of the details!

For those who are taking part in the Christmas Card Extravaganza, I have created some more ideas for each bundle which will help you to maximize the use of your products.  Shortly after each Zoom class, I’ll send out the PDF with pictures and basic cutting instructions for the extras!  These extras will be sent to all who purchase the PDF’s and/or pre-cut kits, so if you haven’t ordered yet, it’s not too late!  Classes can be purchased here.

Switching gears now…, today’s card is a Menagerie Mouse birthday card, super simple and very quick to make!

Yesterday morning I had a free hour before my day began, so I grabbed the Menagerie Mix-Up bundle and checked to see what the current Fusion Card Challenge was.  I always love their dual challenges, where you can use the sketch or a photo theme, or both.  I chose just the sketch this time around.

This Menagerie Mix-Up bundle has 35 stamps and 36 dies and has almost endless possibilities!  Take a look at this sampler of 12 different animals, all of them SO CUTE!!!

I believe that this bundle is being grossly overlooked while we’re all concentrating on Fall and Christmas cards, but it’s worth taking a closer look at.  Each animal can be used for Christmas, birthdays, winter, springtime, Valentine’s Day and more, depending on which props you use (such as balloon, heart, candy cane, gift, scarf & hat, etc.).  You could even reach for different stamp sets to add pumpkins, trees, houses or whatever other prop you’d need!

Here are the images that I stamped for my little mouse (minus the scarf and balloon which were an afterthought).  I used a Memento Tuxedo Black ink pad.

Next I used Stampin’ Blend Markers (alcohol based markers) to color with.  I ended up adding some Old Olive, which isn’t shown in my picture below.  We crafters tend to change our minds during the process, adding things as we go!

Finally, I used the Menagerie Dies to cut out each little piece.  Again, the scarf and balloon were afterthoughts, so are not shown in this picture 🙂

Look at all of those dies…36 in all!  Wowzers!!!  And I love that there’s an outline for each piece on the background sheet, so I always know where they go and which ones are in use.

I appreciate that the ears get cut out with a paper “section” between them for gluing purposes, but for this mouse, I had to cut them apart in order to position them just right.

The completed mouse was placed onto my prepared card which was pieced together with strips from Trimming the Town Designer Series Paper in accordance with the Fusion Card Challenge sketch.

I used sentiments from A Grand Kid stamp set to finish off the front and inside of my card, using Misty Moonlight ink.  The gift packages are from Menagerie Mix-Up using Old Olive ink.

Cutting Measurements:

  • Card Base……………….Misty Moonlight, 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, folded in half at 4 1/4″
  • Mat 1………………………Old Olive, 5 1/4″ x 4″
  • Mat 2………………………Whisper White, 5″ x 3 3/4″
  • Strips………………………Trimming the Town DSP (3 designs) 2 pieces are 1/2″ x 5″ and the diagonal piece is 1 1/4″ x 6″, trimmed after adhering diagonally
  • Stamping panel………..Whisper White, scrap approximately 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″

When you order the Menagerie Mix-Up Bundle from my online store, I’ll send you a PDF of the animal sampler that I showed above.  You’ll be able to print it out and keep it with your bundle, so that you’ll always have examples to create from.  When ordering, please use my current host code, shown below.

Christmas Card Extravaganza…A Virtual Stamp Camp with options!

Are you sad to be missing Christmas Stamp Camp this year? With a global pandemic that is keeping us from many of our usual activities, we are all missing out on certain events and we’re REALLY missing each other!

I’ve decided that the best way around this obstacle is by offering a virtual Christmas Stamp Camp, which I’m calling Christmas Card Extravaganza!

I have created three different classes, each with 6 projects, using products from the August-December 2020 Mini Catalog (aka Stampin’ Up’s Christmas Catalog).

To complete a class, you’ll need certain supplies, such as a bundle (stamps & die cuts) along with the coordinating designer series paper and a few other items that I’ll explain below.  Choose the bundle that appeals most to you, or choose to do all three!

Order my pre-cut card kits that include all of the card stock pieces, ribbon, envelopes and die cuts (that don’t first need stamping).

Each class comes with a PDF for each project and a scheduled Zoom class where we’ll make these cards together while we chat and craft for a few hours or more!

So what does a Christmas Card Extravaganza cost?  Glad you asked!

Remember that I told you there are three different classes to pick from?  You can choose 1, 2 or all 3!
