Bleaching Beetles & Bugs, FMS268

Bleach Technique with Beetles & Bugs, 2017 Stampin' Up! Occasions Catalog, by Krista Thomas, www.regalstamping.com

I did not intend to wait so long in sharing this next Beetles & Bugs card, but life has been busy at the Thomas home!  We enjoyed spending Christmas with our family and then had a couple sleep-overs with our grandsons as well.  With new toys to play with, it was easy to keep them occupied and happy.

Bleaching Technique explained…

When I made this card, I first stamped the bug outlines with VersaMark, sprinkled them with black embossing powder and then used my heat gun to “cook” them.  I then stamped the solid stamps with bleach over the black-embossed bugs to get this cool look and the embossed outlines were not affected by the bleach.   The bleached areas on the Crumb Cake panel closely resembled So Saffron, so that’s what I used for the background and card color.

If you’ve never used bleach for stamping, it’s quite fun to do.  I use a Kotex panty liner as my stamp pad, placing it against the open bleach bottle and tipping the bleach onto it a few times to create an ink pad.  It works great and then you can toss it away!  Just remember to clean your stamps immediately afterwards.  I have never seen it ruin a stamp, so go get some bleach and give it a try.

It’s a challenge…

I am including this card in the Freshly Made Sketches challenge #268 as seen here:

  1. LOVE that technique with these beetles!! And I love the look of the kraft/bleached beetles with the pop of bright colors behind them. Thank you for playing along with us at Freshly Made Sketches.
