Party Panda Scrapbook Layout, 12 x 12

Party Panda Scrapbook Layout by Krista Thomas

These party pandas make me smile every time I use them because they’re just so stinkin’ cute!  They’re one of the free selections in the 2018 Sale-a-Bration brochure and have been a top selection with my customers.

I used several retired products to complete this scrapbook layout, including the Banner Duet punch and a couple different alphabet sets.  The smallest banners are punched from Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper and were just the right touch of bling for this festive party layout, while the pandas were fussy cut with scissors.

I hope this layout inspires you to scrapbook today!

Sure Do Love You Valentine

Happy Valentines Day everyone!  I hope you get to spend time with your sweetheart today.  I get to see my 17 month old grandson for a few hours and then enjoy dinner out with my husband of 34 years, making a perfectly wonderful day of love!

My card today was designed around the Sure Do Love You stamp set and framelits and I used non-traditional Valentine colors in blues & greens.

I used the sunburst stamp from Kinda Eclectic (retired) in the background behind the banner which is popped up with dimensionals.

It’s easy to transition this card into a birthday card just by switching out some of the stamps.  Here’s a birthday card where I used stamps from Party Hat Birthday.

Enjoy this day of love and thanks for stopping by!

Brusho Crystal Colours with Graceful Garden Rose

I have had a box of Brusho Crystal Colours since before Stampin’ Up began carrying them in the current 2018 Occasions Catalog, but I had not really experimented them much until recently.  I am so happy that I finally did!  The cards I’m sharing today feature the rose stamp from Graceful Garden and I used gold embossing powder to give them a rich, timeless look.

Once they were heat embossed, I used an Aqua Painter and got just the rose petals really wet. The water was literally puddled and the embossed lines create a “fence”, keeping the water where you put it.  Then came the fun!  I sprinkled Brusho Crystals over the wet rose.  For the first rose, I used Scarlet Red, Orange & Yellow, keeping the darker colors more towards the center.  Then I walked away and let the water do it’s thing, allowing it to mix & mingle and finally to dry.  Then I wet the leaves and stem and sprinkled Leaf Green & Emerald Green Brusho and then allowed for more time to dry.  If the rose isn’t quite dry when you sprinkle the green crystals, you may end up with some green color in the rose petals, as I did, but I still love how it turned out.  It’s just so hard to be patient sometimes!!

The card base is Peekaboo Peach with a Tangerine Tango mat embossed with the Layered Leaves embossing folder.

Next up is my blue rose done in the same fashion but using Ultramarine Brusho.  The background panel is Concord Crush embossed with Trellis embossing folder.

And finally I made a yellow rose which is backed by a Daffodil Delight panel on an Emerald Envy card base.  I accented the rose and background with a few Glitter & Epoxy Shapes and wrapped the panel with some Emerald Envy ruched ribbon.

The thing I love about Brusho Crystals, is that each color contains many colors which when completely wet, create the desired color.  For example, if you look at the blue rose, you’ll see areas that appear turquoise but are just part of the blue crystals.  I love the color combinations within each bottle and the surprising drama unveiled when they’re mixed with water.  I hope you’ll try some Brusho fun today!

I would love to know which card & rose color is your favorite.  Here are all three shown side by side.

Barn Door Party Panda Card and Tutorial

Barn Door Party Panda Card and Tutorial

This party panda is havin’ some birthday fun out in the barn and in January, my workshop attendees got to make this cute card.  Here’s a picture when the door is on the other side.

There’s a small learning curve to assemble the sliding door and I promised to make a quick tutorial for those who bought the bundle.  I finally have it ready to share and I hope it makes the process look as easy as it really is.  The one thing you really have to have, are the mini dimensionals offered by Stampin’ Up.

Say good-bye to washers!

Stampin’ Up’s suggestion for building the sliding door is to use metal washers…the kind from the hardware store.  You’d need 8 of them which makes for a heavy card, plus I found that the dimensionals didn’t want to stick to them very well.  If you’d like to see an cheap alternative, keep reading.  Here’s the tutorial from the beginning:

Barn Door, Sliding Door, 2018 Occasions Catalog, Tutorial by Krista Thomas

The framelit (above) makes the sliding channels and you’ll want to position it evenly from left to right, and closer to the bottom than the top.  When cut it will look like this:

At this point you’ll want to stamp your desired images on a panel measuring 2 1/2” x 3 7/8”.  Glue it between the channels created with the framelit.  I skipped this step, but by doing it now, you won’t have to slide it under the door after it’s all assembled.

Here’s my alternative to the washers…

Use the largest flower in the Sliding Door Framelits and cut 8.  I used black cardstock for contrast, but you can use white or whatever color suits you.  They won’t show on your finished card.

Another alternative would be the largest circles from the Owl Builder punch or a 3/8” circle punch.  The shape doesn’t have to be round because they don’t roll, they slide, so technically any small shape should work as long as they don’t show after adding the door. I cut two of these flowers out at a time and it took less than a minute.

Next, you’ll need those mini dimensionals that I mentioned before (and you can order them from me here).  Place one dimensional on four of the flowers, as shown:

Barn Door Tutorial, Sliding Door Framelits, 2018 Occasions Catalog, www.regalstamping.com

Next you’ll place the dimensional flowers behind the channels in the yellow panel.  Two in the top channel and two in the bottom, as shown.

Barn Door Tutorial, Sliding Door Framelits, 2018 Occasions Catalog, www..regalstamping.com

Now you’ll place the remaining four flowers over the dimensional flowers (be sure to remove the backing from the dimensionals first!!)

Slide the four sets of flowers out to the far ends of the channels, as shown below, and add another mini dimensional on top of each one.

Remove the paper backing from the dimensionals.  You’re now ready for the barn door.  I stamped mine with black ink on a Real Red panel and used a framelit from the Sliding Door set to cut it out.

Place the door over the dimensionals at one end of the panel, it doesn’t matter which end you start with.  Just make sure it’s straight 🙂

And finally, slide the door to the opposite set of dimensionals until the door is just over them, press to adhere and your door is ready to go!  The final step is the “hardware” which is created with framelits.  Attach these to the door and glue the “rod” above the door so that it looks like the hardware is running on it.  It is just an illusion, they are not really connected!  Like this:

To attach this panel to your card base, you’ll need more dimensionals or some Foam Adhesive Strips.  Place them along both sides of each channel, on the sides, and through the center, like this:

Attach to your card base and here’s the finished card!
