Pastel Dragonflies

Sponged Detailed Dragonfly card by Krista Thomas,, 2017 Occasions Catalog

Time Flies

It’s been a while since my last post and I apologize for that.  Life threw us a curve ball, and we’ve been busy in the aftermath!  On the morning of January 20, my husband and I were watching t.v. and drinking our coffee when our smoke alarm went off.  Upon investigation, we discovered smoke coming out of the cold air return vent in our hallway ceiling.  My first thought was that our attic was on fire.  I quickly called 911 and we left the house.  The firetruck showed up, with two more waiting at the end of our street.  ( We live on a dead-end, with no place for big rigs to turn around.)  It turns out that the blower motor on our 5 year old furnace had burnt up.  Long story, but we’re back to normal after a week with no heat.  The motor was still under warranty and we’re so thankful we were home when it happened.  With four space heaters going, we were able to stay relatively comfortable.  Unfortunately though, I managed to catch a cold and have been recovering from that.  Life is slowly returning to normal and I’m looking forward to getting back out to the craft room!

Dragonfly Delights

I love it when my creative efforts are successful and I’m happy with the finished project.  I also love to discover that the left-over pieces from one card are suitable for another!  Such was the case when I made the Happy Birthday card on the right.  I had cut the dragonflies out of a panel that had been sponged with So Saffron, Peekaboo Peach and Flirty Flamingo ink pads.  I then used the negative piece to create the card on the left.  I glued that panel to black, then glued some gold foil dragonflies into the opening.

But wait, there’s more…

I hope you like these cards and will come back for my next post when I’ll be showing them in another color scheme.  All of the products used are shown below and can be purchased by clicking on the picture, which will take you to my Stampin’ Up store.

Beautiful Detailed Dragonfly with Puzzle-pieced Background

Detailed Dragonfly by Krista Thomas using Window Box Thinlit,

Puzzle-pieced background explained…

One of my favorite colors is purple, so for this card I combined Elegant Eggplant and Sweet Sugarplum. I layered two 3.75″x 5″ panels together and then cut them at the same time, then used two of each color to create this puzzle-pieced background.  To make the background, number each corner on the backside of each panel before cutting (1 through 4), which makes it easier to piece together after they’re cut.  They are then glued onto a 4″x 5.25″ white panel and then placed onto the white card base.

The silver foil dragonfly is positioned on a hexagon that is made with the new Window Box Thinlit.
